Today we arrived in Antarctica (11-26-24). We were booked for an afternoon zodiac cruise, so we spent the morning on the deck, enjoying the gorgeous weather and marveling at the gigantic icebergs.
Then we put on all our layers, including a heavy-duty waterproof jacket and boots, and went down to the “A” deck to get in line for boarding our zodiac. We were lucky to get our favorite driver, DD. Nice to hear his specialty is search and rescue.
We were so excited to see our first penguins. They were Gentoo penguins. Gentoo penguins are the fastest underwater birds, reaching up to 22 mph and diving up to 660 feet! A Gentoo is easily identified by its orange beak and feet.
